We will not buy another coffee maker from this company. For the price, I expected it to last longer than three years. You have to be a contortionist, and have hands the size of a child's. We've owned it about three years, don't make more than a dozen cups a week, and we've suffered through too many frustrations due to its many high-maintenance issues. Just try reaching your hand up inside to clean the trap as they suggest. Using spring water will cost you.
And you should also know that while this machine makes a better cup of coffee than most of the cheaper machines we've tried, it doesn't compare to cafe coffee at all, so set your expectations accordingly. Error messages abound. Jura has been little help resolving our problems. Yes, it's easy to use, when it works. And don't think we haven't babied our investment. This machine has given us problems almost since day one.
Nothing but bottled spring water has ever been used in this machine, and we've been super vigilant about the oiliness of the beans. It does use a lot - and I do mean a lot - of water.
I probably would not have purchased this model if it were not my husband. It has all the bells and whistles so if you want a little less flash and the same function go with the S9. This came in handy the other evening when a guest of ours wanted decaf but we had regular beans in the machine. What a BIG expense but such a GREAT purchase. I suspect a lot of the errors and issues folks are having in the other reviews on this site may be due to misuse.
I am so impressed with how solid the machine is built and the parts seem very durable. read the instructions. Another nice feature, that some of the cheaper machines do not have is that you can use two kinds of coffee - beans or grounds at the same time. It also fits a lot better in the fridge door. There is a comparison chart of the Jura machines on their website. I have owned a Cappresso for many years and was leaning towards the DeLonghi after reading reviews and functionality. We bought this machine after extensive research and visiting many stores. The quality of this product is incredible.
The Delonghi frothier seemed to come lose after use and the machine had problems recognizing the milk container. Hope you enjoy this as much as my husband and I do. The Jura is a thermos like container and can sit on your counter for several hours in the morning without getting warm. A must do is. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING. This is a big purchase but well worth the cafe quality beverages.
If you live by a Costco, you may want to buy beans in bulk. It is not complicated at all to use.but remember. I am so happy we bought the Jura Z5. The machine is not complicated but is obviously high tech and not like your run of the mill $199 coffee machine. After visiting the stores and seeing them in action, the Jura won hands down. One more thing.don't forget this makes hot chocolate and hot water for tea.
We do notice we drink much more coffee :-) Also if you like flavored drinks, try buying the starbucks syrup and making your own latte at home for MUCH less. MUST READ. I am a shopper and look for the best deals and the best product. You just scope in the grounds you want and presto.different kind of coffee without removing all the beans.
Unfortunately, that's not all the time. My second one got past that, but often jams when retracting its grounds ejector and does not flow the coffee well. Great when it works. My first one had an internal leak right out of the box.
Coffee tasted terrible and I did sneak over to the local Starbucks on a few days.Fortunately, I only had to endure 4 days of bad coffee. I contacted Capresso, they sent a pre-paid UPS sticker and, reluctantly I sent my machine in for repair. Wow, I could not believe that the UPS man was actually delivering the machine when he did. Quality and convenience is superior. Excellent service from the company when a repair was needed. Using our old drip machine was horrid.
They replaced the steam unit and, preventative, the brewing unit.Overall, fabulous macine with fabulous coffee. I have owned this machine for 1 year and use it every day. I encountered a problem this month - steam could not be created for the frothed drinks. Got it to the local UPS store at 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and it was back to me on Monday morning.
Also very early on in the first few months of use, an error "system fill" kept cropping up. I was very good about cleaning it from the get. There are many other issues with this machine that are too lengthy to discuss. Now that it's past it's warranty, the Z5 is on its way out. My husband and I only make on average 8 cups a day on the weekend and less on weekdays since we are not home which the machine should be able to handle with no problems.
Save your money and really research these expensive super-automatic machines before purchase. The cleaning products are expensive as well and if you don't buy the filter, you must decalcify the machine with their special tablets which is no fun task. I hope if you own this machine already that you don't encounter the errors we did and hopefully they have improved the machine mechanics since 3 years ago. Our Z5 is only 3 years old and for as much money as you spend you would think it would work much better and for longer. In other reviews I've read elsewhere, after warranty, the machine just dies as ours did. The mechanics are running very very slowly now and finding an authorized repair dealer is IMPOSSIBLE. We bought it and within a month of use, water started to leak all over the counter and has ever since when there is a full tank of water.
After several calls to customer support which they were of no help, it still has that error to this day. The reviews that give it 5 stars, I guarantee they have not owned the machine very long. We will never buy another Jura product again. Enough said. My husband and I were sold on this machine about 3 years ago from trying the espresso from it at William Sonoma. Every morning we get an "Error 8" before all coffee is dispensed and we also cannot use the pre-ground feature anymore as it dumps it in the grounds area and not into the cup. The milk frother doesn't work every time and clogs very easily.
